National Environmental Achievement Award Winners Demonstrate Public Service Excellence in Clean Water

Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe was on hand to commend the awardees of the 2017 NACWA National Environmental Achievement Awards for State Public Service.  NACWA is proud to honor the recipients for their public service and continued work to protect and preserve the nation’s most vital natural resource:

NACWA is proud to recognize the Hon. Molly J. Ward, Secretary of Natural Resources, VA, and Russ Baxter, Dep. Sec. of Natural Resources for Chesapeake Bay, VA, for their public service and continued work to protect and preserve the nation’s most vital natural resource.

The Hon. Molly Joseph Ward, Secretary of Natural Resources for the Commonwealth of Virginia, was nominated by the Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD).  Secretary Ward was honored for her strong personal connection to the water environment and sector, and for her understanding of, and demonstrated support for, solutions to the issues and challenges faced by clean water utilities.

Russ Baxter, Deputy Secretary of Natural Resources for the Chesapeake Bay, Commonwealth of Virginia, was nominated by Alexandria Renew Enterprises. Deputy Secretary Baxter was honored for his steady, passionate leadership on water issues, and for his unwavering advocacy for clean water, and the overall health and viability of the Chesapeake Bay.

HRSD General Manager Edward “Ted” Henifin, who is also Chair of NACWA’s Awards Committee, presented the awards.  Congratulations to the winners for their work, leadership and example of public service for clean water!
